Fake Email Alert
February 1, 2023
RICHMOND – The Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) has been made aware of fake emails sent to licensees (both inactive and active) claiming to be from DPOR or DPOR employees. DPOR will never send an email from a Gmail or Yahoo address.
The phishing emails that DPOR was provided came from either a Gmail or Yahoo address and either promise the opportunity of possible grant funding or indicate the recipient has received a secure message and can access it by saving and opening it. Please do not click the links or reply. Always be very cautious of any unsolicited email.
If you still have concerns about an email alleging to be from DPOR please contact Communications and Digital Media Manager Kerri O’Brien at 804-367-0673. Finally, please be mindful of the following recommendations that can minimize your chances of falling victim to an email scam:
- Filter spam.
- Don’t trust unsolicited email.
- Don’t click links in email messages.
- Be cautious about opening any attachment or downloading any file from emails you receive, regardless of who sent them.
