Consumer Resources
The reason for professional regulation is to protect the public’s health, safety, and welfare. DPOR is a valuable resource for consumers when hiring or working with a regulated professional.
The General Assembly determines which professions and occupations require licensure or certification. Regulatory boards establish the minimum competency standards necessary to practice without harming the public. DPOR enforces standards of professional conduct by investigating reports against licensees, and by ensuring regulated professions are in compliance with state law and regulations.
